Coral microbiome

I study how the coral microbiome contributes to coral tissue regeneration from predation, storm-induced fragmentation, or abrasion from anchors. My project investigates the relationship between microbial community composition and diversity and tissue regeneration by asking: 1) how do microbial communities respond after corals are wounded? and 2) how does the size of the wound and presence of macroalgae affect microbial community composition and influence regeneration?

Coral restoration

Working with the National Park Service in St. John, USVI to restore Mary's Creek, Leinster Bay and Waterlemon Cay for tourists. I am interested in optimizing protocol for restoration site selection, bouldering species, and long-term monitoring. I want to engage local communities and the tourism industry to learn what they observe and implement strategies with them.

Reef monitoring

Utilizing long term monitoring to assess coral reef ecosystems. Co-create with communities and adjust intervention methods based on how the ecosystem responds to stress and disturbances.
